AK-47, otherwise known as Afghan Kush, is a 65% sativa-dominant hybrid. It’s THC potency is often ranging over 20 percent with very little CBD. Traditionally, AK-47 has beautiful, resinous, dense lime green buds with distinct orange hairs and fat, juicy calyxes. It’s known for it’s instantaneous, powerful punch of psychoactivity, hence its name. The high is cerebral, mellow and long lasting with a boost to alertness and concentration. On the nose there are strong notes of floral and citrus and on the palate it’s spicy and aromatic. AK-47 can be a great day-time high for less strenuous activities if used in small doses. It also has great medical benefits due to its ability to help with pain management, appetite stimulation, nausea reduction, and bring relief from menstrual cramps.

Simon of Serious Seeds in Amsterdam bred this legendary strain in 1992 and re-stabilized it in 1999 so there was more uniformity in the plants seed production. He has been awarded 25 cannabis cup awards worldwide for this “one-hit wonder.” AK-47’s first awards were at the 1995 High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, receiving 2nd place in Hydro and 3rd place for Overall Best Flower. Recently, in 2016, the plant was awarded 2nd Place in the Bio category at the HighLife Cup in Amsterdam.

The lineage of AK-47 is traced to a 4-way cross between Colombian, Thai, Mexican and Afghani strains. This sativa leaning strain has a surprisingly short flowering period, averaging 53-63 days for indoor growers. AK-47 harvests in the middle-end of October when grown outdoors, but due to its medium heights, making it suitable for indoor or home cultivation as well. Being easy to grow, AK-47 is a great strain for the amateur cultivator, typically producing high yields averaging 350 - 500g/m².
