Colombian Gold

There are few strains out there that can rival the influence or longevity of the Colombian landrace strain, sometimes also referred to as Colombian Gold. Landrace strains are the oldest, original parent strains of cannabis plants we know today. These have grown in the natural environment, their genetics untampered by human intervention, having been subject only to thousands of years of natural evolution (some say that their effects are superior due to the natural harmony of their genetics). There are many landrace strains and each has emerged from and flourished in their respective part of the world, which is also how they get their name. Colombian hails from Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a mountain range that runs through Colombia, where the soil is incredibly fertile and the strain has been interbred for generations, yielding one of the most genetically pure sativa strains known to man.

The Colombian strain first made its way into the U.S., Europe and other regions of the world around the 60’s and 70’s. It has been reported to contain THC levels ranging from 15%-20%. These mid-to-high levels of potency produce a varying intensity of effects, but in every case, Colombian leads to a focused and clear headed high which is great for staying productive and elevating mood. Such effects are great for patients suffering from ADD/ADHD, battling depression, or dealing with pain. Fortunately, these benefits are not accompanied by anxiety and paranoia, the undesirable byproducts of sativa-dominant strains. The cerebral effects brought on by Colombian Gold are long lasting and have a quick onset, making it a little bit easier to find the perfect dose to medicate with. The distinct and energetic buzz is great for mornings. If used in the afternoon, patients will receive a stress relieving mindset that is coupled with a mental boost. Increasing talkativeness and an easier onset of laughter are also common, making it a popular choice among recreational users.

Colombian Gold has a strong aroma and users have said that this strain’s taste is sweet and fruity, punctuated by lemony-lime flavor, and having subtle note of pine. The leaves are lime green and the buds are peppered with very large, bright crystals and thick orange hairs. The plant grows tall and branches wide, harvesting in 70 to 90 days. Colombian Gold has an average level of resilience to threats like pests and mold, and it’s yield is on the lesser side of medium – a few factors that make it less attractive to cultivators and unfortunately, quite rare to find.
