Thai
Thai (also called Thai Sativa or “Thai Sticks” due to the method that marijuana farmers traditionally used to harvest this crop) refers to a pure sativa strain that hails from the tropical jungles of Thailand. It is known as a “landrace strain,” and is credited with supplying the source genetics for a large number of popular contemporary sativas (and hybrids). However, due to cross-fertilization that has been going on over the past 30-plus years, it is incredibly difficult to find Thai in its untainted, original form. And while modern day growers have used Thai to create new and exciting strains that bolster positive traits and minimize the negative ones, there’s something to be said about the natural harmony of the therapeutic compounds present in the original strain, created over millions of years by natural selection alone and with only the natural environment to impact the plant’s adaptation and growth.
In the true nature of a sativa strain, Thai produces intense mental effects, punctuated by euphoria, boosts in energy, focus and creativity. It is a great morning pick-me-up, perfect in the afternoon to keep you going and very pleasant at night to liven up the evening. One exhale of this potent and slightly acrid smoke and one will start to feel an immediate improvement of mood, along with a mental alertness to help shift into a state of productivity. If you’ve ever had a cup of Thai Iced Coffee, it might remind you of the experience you have medicating with this flower, considering its strength, sweetness, and the ability to invigorate. Thai has been said to have a number of flavor profiles; some patients have described it as having a fruity citrus taste, while others report an herbal taste with diesel notes.
The taste may alter from plant to plant, but the effects surely do not. The Thai strain will deliver a very potent buzz that will demand respect from less experienced users. This buzz energizes for quite a long time giving those who need it a burst of unhindered productivity. Thai is recommended for combating fatigue, as well as ADD and ADHD, although users should be very moderate with their dosage considering the strain’s high potency. Overdosing may lead to an increase in anxiety, potentially the opposite effect of what may have been intended.
THC content can range anywhere from 14% - 22%, while CBD levels remain low. Once it is ready for consumption, Thai’s appearance resembles older pictures of marijuana from as far back as the 70’s, with very leafy and loosely fitting buds arranged on the dried branch that grew them. It also doesn’t offer too much vivid color and hovers around earthy and pale greens and browns. It prospers best in environments that most resemble Thailand’s tropical climate, grows very tall and has a consistently good yield. However, to fully flower, Thai may require as much as 5 months, which only adds to the rarity of this strain.
