Purple Kush

Purple Kush – a Top 10 Kush strain according to High Times Magazine - is a pure indica that is fabled to have been born in Oakland, Califonia. The genetics of Purple Kush are nothing short of legendary, as it combines 2 indica landraces from South-Central Asia: Hindu Kush and Afghani. Genetically speaking, it is a very stable hybrid that’s been known to contain THC levels ranging from 18% all the way up to 27%. It is an excellent strain for late-night use and is known for being mouth-watering and totally relaxing.

Purple Kush has medium-sized, dense and heavy buds that can be either green or purple, depending on the phenotype. The more colorful variants are selectively bred from more purple-leaning Afghani parents and have likely been exposed to colder conditions during cultivation, which activates the pigments responsible for causing foliage to change color. The buds themselves are loaded with sticky resin, making Purple Kush a great strain for producing concentrates.

The aroma of Purple Kush is similar to its Afghani linage, characterized by musky, earthy and woody notes. Sweet and fruity tones reminiscent of grape can be detected in the taste as soon as the flower is combusted. Being somewhat harsh on the lungs, it may be recommendable to avoid a heavy cough by smoking Purple Kush out of a vaporizer or filtered through a bong, which quickly leads to a heavy body stone and a time-slowing sense of calm that usually lasts for 2-3 hours. Purple Kush also produces a mentally disoriented, somewhat spacey experience, however, the user’s focus can seem heightened when called upon to concentrate on specific tasks. That being said, this is a strain for enjoyment and relaxation, not productivity. The powerful sedative can be highly effective at reducing pain, anxiety, or stress. With heavy enough doses, Purple Kush can also be effective at overcoming severe insomnia.

Typical to a pure indica, Purple Kush is short (rarely exceeding 3 feet in height), bushy, and can thrive indoors or out. It flowers within 8 weeks when grown indoors and harvests in late September when planted outside, with an average yield close to 1.5 ounces for each square foot of the plant.
