Chem Dog '91
Chem Dog '91, which also goes by the names of Chemdawg ‘91or Chem ‘91, is a sativa-dominant hybrid (albeit not by much) and is known for its very high potency and a pungent and powerful diesel aroma. With average THC content testing between 24%-28% and reaching as high as 32%, Chem '91 packs a powerful punch that isn't recommended for novice smokers. Devoid of CBD to counteract the high THC concentration, Chem Dog '91 can cause paranoia and anxiety, and not just among users with a low tolerance.
The story of this strain dates back to the early nineties, to a parking lot of a Grateful Dead show in Noblesville, Indiana. A couple friends (P-Bud and Joe Brand) from Crested Butte, Colorado decided to bring a pound of what they called 'Dog Bud' to the event, where they met a cannabis aficionado from Massachusetts whose name would later rise to prominence as Chem Dog.
Impressed with the strain from his initial experience, Chem Dog ultimately obtained a few pounds of Dog Bud, within which he found thirteen seeds that ultimately became the matriarchs of 5 popular strains we know and use today. Over the span of two decades, Chem Dog germinated 10 of the 13 seeds. From the first 4 seeds he sprouted 3 strains that have received wide acclaim. These were the Chem ’91 strain,Chem's Sister, and Chem C. In 2001, Chem Dog germinated three more seeds, which he labeled “c,” “d,” and “e.” He kept the “d," (which has come to be known as Chem D) and disposed of the rest. In 2006, Chem Dog reunited with Joe Brand and the pair germinated three more seeds, one of which they kept, now known asChemdawg #4. While the true lineage of the original Dog Bud strain remains a mystery today, it is speculated to be a cross betweenThaiandNepaleselandrace strains.
On the nose, Chem '91 is earthy, pungent, and diesel and on the palate it’s strong, chemical, and sour. It’s a great stress reliever and can help with pain management any time of day. The strong head high boosts creative capacity and is mentally uplifting. When it comes to growing, Chem ‘91 is known to be a finicky indoor plant to cultivate and is susceptible to a variety of molds. However, if done right, it can yield up to 1.8 pounds per plant, with an average flower time between 8-9 weeks.
