Maui Wowie
Maui Wowie (sometimes spelled Maui Waui) is an 80% sativa dominant hybrid with a long and colorful history that dates back to the 60's. It was originally grown outdoors, in the highly fertile and mineral rich volcanic soil of Hawaii’s Maui island. Credited to a master cultivator named Brudda Joseph, Maui Wowie was among the first cannabis strains to reach double digit potency and is generally measured to contain THC levels between 13% - 17%.
Maui Wowie is best used at the start of the day due to its energizing and mildly euphoric effects. In the early days, it was a very popular strain for those who like to rise early and hit the beach for some morning surf. Medically speaking, the strain is useful for patients struggling with chronic depression, anxiety, pain, or mood disorders. It is also said to restore one’s appetite and relieve nausea, making Maui Wowie a great choice for those battling anorexia and other eating disorders.
When grown in a tropical climate (which is recommended), Maui Wowie is fairly resistant to disease, mold and mildew. Tropical scents such as pineapple and mango are some of its most common aromatics.
As Brudda Joseph donated the original genetics of Maui Wowie to the Ohana Pau Mana seed bank, modern day growers can still obtain the legacy genetics. Typically flowering in 10 to 11 weeks, this tall and lanky plant can be reproduced in any corner of the world.
