Critical Mass
Critical Mass is an 85% indica-dominant hybrid credited to Mr. Nice, who bred it for its remarkably massive yield. Commonly found at local dispensaries due to popularity with growers, it stems from a cross between the landrace Afghani indica and Skunk #1. Critical Mass grows large and heavy buds that snap the very branches on which they hang, requiring special support during the later stages of their grow. While being vulnerable to mold, the large buds do boast a generous amount of trichomes and measure, on average, to contain between 19% - 22% THC. The flavor and aroma of this strain are Skunk-like with a sweet earthiness, inherited from the Afghan parent, which has let some people to begin calling this strain Afghan Skunk.
True to its name and genetics, Critical Mass delivers a largely sedative and lethargic effect, numbing the body and adding what seems to be 20 pounds of weight to each limb. While it may not promote physical activity, users do report clear-headed, creative and thought-provoking thinking, along with the expected dry mouth and eyes. At higher quantities, the negative effects could lead to anxiety and mild paranoia, making this strain most recommendable to users with a developed tolerance for high THC products. On the other hand, for the very same reasons Critical Mass is good for insomniacs, who seek non-pharmacological methods of sleeping through the night, as well as for those suffering from chronic aches and pains, who may find relief in the enveloping indica body high. Other patients select Critical Mass to relieve stress, anxiety, migraines, nausea or anorexia, and due to its stimulation of appetite, cancer patients may find it helpful after chemo.
It is said that Critical Mass was an "update" on an older and equally popular strain called Big Bud, which was also derived from the same genetic lineage and utilized for it's larger than average harvest.
