In 2012, Massachusetts voters passed a new law legalizing the use of cannabis for medical purposes. The law took effect on January 1st, 2013. This law mandated a state-run registry for patients and issued 35 state licenses for cannabis dispensaries (aka "medical marijuana treatment centers) to operate under a non-profit designation. In addition, the law permitted patients (and designated caregivers) to cultivate a limited amount of cannabis. Find medical marijuana dispensaries in Massachusetts here.
