Senate Bill 862 was signed into law in 2000 and took effect later that year. It stipulates that eligible patients must obtain a signed physician's statement declaring that medical marijuana would help their "debilitating condition" and that the "potential benefits... would likely outweigh the health risks" of using medical cannabis. The state-run patient registry is mandatory for eligible patients. Qualified patients may possess up to 4 ounces of the plant for personal use. Find medical marijuana dispensaries in Hawaii here.
