About Cannabinol (CBN)

Cannabinol, or CBN, has no intoxicating effects and rarely exceeds 1% in dried flower. With a boiling point of 365 degrees fahrenheit, it is known to produce sedative effects, serving as a great treatment option for anyone suffering from sleep disorders. A five milligram dose of CBN is said to be as effective as a 10 milligram dose of diazepam (Valium), a strong pharmaceutical sedative. Among other medical applications, CBN may also have anticonvulsant, anti-inflammatory, and antibiotic properties.

CBN levels tend to be higher with older cannabis, as THC oxidizes over time and with exposure to oxygen, converting to CBN. This is why aged, poorly stored flower tends to produce a sleepy and unmotivating efects. Fresh plants and recently dried marijuana flower, therefore, possess only trace amounts of CBN.

In addition to the dominantly sedative effects, CBN shows promising results as an analgesic. Pre-clinical studies have hinted at CBN’s potential for treating burns and other skin conditions such as psoriasis and experiments and research has demonstrated that CBN is capable of slowing the onset of symptoms from ALS.

Laboratory test results correlate to strain attributes and subsequently, to the recommendations provided by StrainRx. A strain rich in CBN will cause sedation and the values for attributes such as sleepiness, drowsiness and other sedentary and lethargic effects will be elevated in accordance with higher values of this cannabinoid.
